DIY Starburst Mirror!

Meet my bare wall. Above the tele, that is. Pretty lonely and I wasn't quite sure how to jazz it up. Just a side note: the wall opposite this is my art wall so I didn't feel I could do another.

Enter, the mirror. Small, with a slight crack in the side but kept it around for a few years thinking I could use it for something.

Having a 2 year old means that I have an abundant stash of everything crafty! Hot glue gun and skewers! I just cut them to size and glued them on. Hoping I wouldn't run out.

Well, here she is! Just needs a little paint.

I used RustOleum Painters Touch in Almond.

Well, what do you think?? I had so much fun doing it, too! Are you crafty, too??
Now, on to my next project!!

DIY Whoville Clover!

I REALLY needed a centerpiece for my dining table. I had a beautiful vase with some very tall decorative sticks that I got from the dollar store. It needed some jazzing and I wanted to bring a green element.

Off I went to the dollar store and found some creativity for a few bucks! Styrofoam balls of various sizes, glue and spanish moss.

I put glue on the balls and added the moss. Rolling each ball tightly in my hands like a ball of dough so it would adhere. Let it dry. Would have included a picture but it came out blurry but you get the idea, right?! Then you just pop them onto the sticks at various heights.

Voila!! I had so much fun creating this, I might have to make a small vase display for B's room. Wonder if you can dye the moss a deep pink or lilac. Hmmmmm, will let you know! Whenever I get a creative idea in my head I pounce on it!! Happy crafting!!

More love for Eclectic!

I couldn't pass this up! I was going to feature some snazzy contemporary but after perusing a few I was just so smitten with eclectic. Wowsers!! Could I have found the style that makes my heart skip a wee beat?? Me thinks, yes! I just love the mixing of styles! Every room that I chose really spoke to me in some way. How about you?? Do you have a style that you just can't get enough of?? Do you like to mix it up a bit??

Eclectic revisited!

I am never quite sure of my personal style when it comes to my home. I DO love to surround myself with THINGS! I mean things that are special, or collected. I am not a sparse person but like a little clutter. Um, as long as it's tidy! The Eclectic style has always been the one that I think is more me, with a little contemporary in the mix!

Thanks Elle Decor for all the lovely eye candy!

All is well!

Day 3? Am I finally getting the hang of this? Boy, it sure is a lot of work but I am up to the challenge. Think tomorrow I will take the wee one to my fave shop, Goodwill! And then to the dollar store to get some Halloween fun!! Funny thing is, I just realized I haven't really told anyone about my blog yet. Well, maybe one more day and then . . . I'll spread the word. Night night all! Ummmmm, errrr, me?? :-)

Fabulous Entryways!!

Was on HGTV'S site and just had to share!
I adore the stripes! Are they too much?? Ummmm, me thinks, NO!!!!!

You have to have a cascading staircase, right?? Maybe it's just me.
Modern and clean lines. The natural light is just stunning and welcoming.
It looks like a party pad but there is something very warm and cozy about the space.

Inspiration

I feel inspired to work my patootie off to get this off the ground!! Think I will share my new blog tomorrow after I upload a slew of pics!! Night night Magpies :-)

Thrifty Magpies is born!! Yipeeeeee!!!

Well, here goes!! So excited I have a little nest in the blogosphere!! I hope to inspire those who visit to create and not break the bank!! Welcome all Magpies!!! :-)
The Magpie's Nest

by Joseph Jacobs
English Fairy Tales

All the birds of the air came to the magpie and asked her to teach them how to build nests. For the magpie is the cleverest bird of all at building nests. So she put all the birds round her and began to show them how to do it. First of all she took some mud and made a sort of round cake with it.

"Oh, that's how it's done!" said the thrush, and away it flew - and so that's how thrushes build their nests.

Then the magpie took some twigs and arranged them round in the mud.

"Now I know all about it!" said the blackbird, and off it flew - and that's how the blackbirds make their nests to this very day.

Then the magpie put another layer of mud over the twigs.

"Oh, that 's quite obvious!" said the wise owl, and away it flew - and owls have never made better nests since.

After this the magpie took some twigs and twined them round the outside.

"The very thing!" said the sparrow, and off he went - so sparrows make rather slovenly nests to this day.

Well, then Madge magpie took some feathers and stuff, and lined the nest very comfortably with it.

"That suits me!" cried the starling, and off it flew - and very comfortable nests have starlings.

So it went on, every bird taking away some knowledge of how to build nests, but none of them waiting to the end.

Meanwhile Madge magpie went on working and working without looking up, till the only bird that remained was the turtle-dove, and that hadn't paid any attention all along, but only kept on saying its silly cry, "Take two, Taffy, take two-o-o-o!"

At last the magpie heard this just as she was putting a twig across, so she said, "One's enough."

But the turtle-dove kept on saying, "Take two, Taffy, take two-o-o-o!"

Then the magpie got angry and said, "One's enough, I tell you!"

Still the turtle-dove cried, "Take two, Taffy, take two-o-o-o!"

At last, and at last, the magpie looked up and saw nobody near her but the silly turtle-dove, and then she got rarely angry and flew away and refused to tell the birds how to build nests again.

And that is why different birds build their nests differently.
